Applications are invited from Unmarried Male and Female Graduates In Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical & Automation Engineering for Recruitment as TRAINEE MARINE ENGINEER

Qualification :

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering /Mechanical & Automation Engineering from AICTE Approved Engineering college. Equivalent degree or degree with specialization or electives other than above educational qualification is not acceptable. Final year / semester students who have appeared in the exam and expect their results by 31.07.2013 are also eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must be in possession of a valid degree in Engineering certificate with minimum 50% marks in final year of Engineering with a good academic record throughout the degree curriculum and should have secured at least 50% marks in English language at XIIth class.

Age Limit :

Maximum 28 years as on 1st January 2014 (Date of commencement of training). Candidate belonging to UR/OBC Category must be born on or after 01.01.1986. Relaxations applicable to SC/ST candidate as per existing Govt. directives. Candidate belonging to SC/ST Category must be born on or after 01.01.1981.

Medical Standard  :

Candidate must have good health and should be fit for sea service as per existing MS Medical rules 2000 applicable to sea farers.

Eyesight :

Candidate must have good eye sight in general. Defective colour vision (colour blindness) is NOT accepted. 

Selection Procedure:

Eligible candidates will be required to appear in the All India written Test at their own expenses and only candidates qualifying in the written test will be called for Personal Interview in the ratio of 1:3 (3 candidates called against 1 vacancy) keeping the provision of reservation for SC/ST/OBC & OBC Minority in view. The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. reserves the right to shortlist the candidates for written test also.

About the Written examination:

The written examination shall be of two (02) hours duration, which will be in the form of multiple choice questions (MCQs). Written examination will focus on MCQ’s on Quantitative Aptitude test, Professional Knowledge test, English Language test and Reasoning Ability test. The questions of the test will be bilingual (English and Hindi). Candidate MUST PASS in each of the objective tests to qualify for personnel interview. The passing Marks in each test will be decided on the basis of the performance of all the competing candidates in each test.

Graduate Marine Engineering (GME) Training and Course Fees:

After final short listing, the eligible candidate has to undergo shore based training for 12 months at Kochi / Mumbai. The fees for training is approximately Rs.3,00,000/- (Approx. Rs. Three Lakhs only). Candidate to pay the required fees directly to the training institute. The fees may vary and solely decided by respective Govt. Institutes. Fees once paid is not refundable at any stage either in full or part.

Test Centre :

  • The written test will be held at Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai only.
  • Candidates will have to choose test centre, nearest from their home town and the same cannot be changed after the form is submitted online. However, The Shipping Corporation of India reserves the right to cancel or add any test centre or change the centre chosen by the candidate.

Application Fees :

  • Rs.1000/- for General (UR) & OBC candidate’s and Rs.500/- for SC & ST candidate’s .
  • Before filling online application form, candidates should deposit application fees in the State Bank of India, The Shipping Corporation of India ltd. Mumbai’s below bank account and obtain JOURNAL NUMBER OF DEPOSIT FROM RESPECTIVE BANK immediately after fees deposited as it is MANDATORY for filling online application.(All Banks provide Journal number if requested to provide them.)
  • The details like Amount of fees deposited, transaction number, bank name, branch, date of deposit, are required to be entered in online application form.
  • Further download and take the print out of your form and same to be forwarded to SCI along with COUNTER DEPOSIT RECEIPT OR SLIP (DEPOSITOR’S COPY) OF FEES, ISSUED FROM BANK IN ORIGINAL along with other certificates for deciding final eligibility.
  • (Candidates can keep photocopy/xerox of such deposit receipt for their own record).

Job Prospects :

After completion of training and obtaining MEO CLASS-IV PART “A” certificates of competency the candidates will join as Trainee Marine Engineer in ship owned or operated by SCI for a period of six months, and on completion of training and obtaining MEO CL IV Part ‘B’ certificate by the candidate the candidate may be employed as per INSA-MUI Agreement. After obtaining necessary sea experience and higher certificates of competence the candidate can rise to the rank of Chief Engineer officer on the ship.

Admit Card :

List of eligible candidates for the All India written examination will be published on The Shipping Corporation Of India’s website (http://www.shipindia.com/careers/fleet-personnel.aspx). An Admit card of eligible candidate will be available on website to download before written examination. Admit cards will not be delivered to candidate’s home address. All eligible candidates have to carry the downloaded admit card along with a photograph to the Test Centre without which they will not be allowed to appear in the written examination. The photograph carried by the candidate should be the same as the one appearing on the Admit Card. Intimation about admit card will be send by SMS and email to all eligible candidates.

Interview Schedule :

List of candidates shortlisted for interview will be published on SCI’s website (http://www.shipindia.com/careers/fleet-personnel.aspx) and they will be intimated about the time and venue by email.
Similarly, the final list of selected candidates after Medical examination will be published on the website only and they will be intimated about the joining date and other formalities.

How To Apply :

a. Eligible candidates have to apply only through the online application system of The Shipping Corporation Of India Ltd. To apply, visit our website link www.shipindia.com/career/fleet personnel/opening in fleet/TME2014. It is mandatory that the candidates should have a valid e-mail id and mobile number while applying through the online application system in order to facilitate faster communication henceforth. As all communications and correspondence will be through emails only.
b. The website will remain functional from 10:00 hrs of 12th June 2013 to 17:00 hrs of 03rd
July 2013. However, the candidates should complete the online application at the earliest in order to avoid site congestion.
c. Candidates will have to apply for only once.
d. Before filling online application, candidates should deposit application fees in the State Bank of India, The Shipping Corporation of India ltd. Mumbai’s account and obtain transaction number which is mandatory for filling online application. Also the counter deposit slip of bank need to submit in ORIGINAL along with hard copy of downloaded online application form and other certificates for deciding final eligibility.
e. Candidates should read Advt. & all instructions carefully before filling online application form. The online registration form will open by clicking the "Apply Online" link. Before applying, candidates should ensure that they fulfil all the eligibility criteria and norms mentioned in this advertisement.
f. Candidates must complete filling the form and submit the same before 17:00 hrs of 03rd
July 2013 i.e. the last date for online application.
g. After filling all details in the online application form, candidates are required to save this
online form and generate unique registration number. Also candidate has to download the Application form generated and take a print-out of the same, paste the recent self attested passport size photo in the space indicated, put his/her signature in the place provided (sign. on photo should match)and send the same along with the attested photocopies/Xerox of enclosures by Gazetted Officer like (SSC/HSC Passing Certificate for birth proof, Degree Certificate/Provisional Degree Certificate, All semester mark sheets, Caste certificate, Caste
